A little afternoon news history for 9NEWS:
- 9NEWS tried a 4pm newscast in 1988 to compete against NBC O&O KCNC's long
established hour long "NEWS4 First News" which launched in September 1983, this newscast
lasted a year & was only a :30 min newscast.
- From 1992--1995 they had a :30min newscast in the slot with Anne Lanker
called "9NEWS 4:00" that focused on lighter news fair, compared to
KCNC's "First News" at the time.
- The present day-"Four O'Clock at 9NEWS" re-launched to a regular newscast and to a full hour on Monday September 11, 1995 with Kim Christianstan & Paul Johnson, after the "Big Switch" from ABC to NBC, the morning before.
- In early 1996 Ed Greene joined Kim Christiansan at the desk, with Mike Nelson.
- In 2000 after Ed Greene went back to KCNC, Mark Koebrich joined Kim on the Desk, with Kirk Montgomery and was there until his retirement in 2016, when Tom Greene took over.
- Until the early 1990 or 1991 9NEWS also ran an hour long 5PM Newscast before moving ABC World News Tonight into the 5:30 time slot, a move they continued with NBC Nightly News.
