KDVR Sold back to FOX?

There is a new twist to the merger between Tribune Broadcasting & Sinclair Broadcast Group--reports indicate that FOX Television Stations Inc wants some of it's stations. Some stations on this list would come back to FOX,  The list of stations that FOX wants are:
  • KDVR FOX 31 (KFCT-22)
  • WJW  FOX 8
  • WITI FOX 6
  • KTVI FOX 2
  • KSWB FOX 5
All of Tribune's other stations would go to Sinclair.  There is no official announcement just yet.  All of these stations have 1 thing in common-- NFL football. FOX has been buying stations in NFL markets, so this kind of makes since.

9NEWS & Channel 20 update there graphics.

9NEWS Has updated it's on-air graphics, the 2 biggest noticeable changes are the  9NEWS logo the red, white & blue lines are gone and the weather graphics are lot different, the "rundown" or the list of stories coming up has changed.    This look debuted on 4 O'Clock @ 9NEWS this afternoon.    This is part of a group wide graphics update, most Tegna stations should have this by the end of the year.

The 9NEWS logo with the red, white, & blue lines has been in place since 1984 the only difference it had the abc logo instead of the nbc peacock.

They have an article on the changes that can be found here:Weather Graphics Update

The website should be updated soon as Tegna stations are beginning to roll out update versions of there sites.  WXIA-11 Alive, already has the updated website.

Denver November Sweeps

The November Sweeps period is over--some newscasts in Denver see double digit declines in viewership in November.
All Denver newscasts saw declines in viewership, some worse than others.

While 9NEWS (KUSA) is still #1 at 10pm it saw a 28% drop year over year, from 3.09% in Nov '16 to 2.23% this November.

FOX31 (KDVR) was down 12% at 9pm, 16% at 9:30pm & 16% at 10pm.

CBS4 (KCNC) was down 20% at 10pm

7NEWS (KMGH) was down 22% at 10pm

KUSA's loss translates to a loss of 15,000 viewers. This loss is because digital devices continue to draw people away from TV newscasts, especially among younger viewers.

NEXT with Kyle Clark saw it's viewership increase with a 2.26 rating.

While KUSA is still #1 in the Denver Market KDVR was a strong #2 during the November sweeps period.  Sinclair's takeover of KDVR & KWGN is expected in the 1st quarter of 2018.

CBS 4 & CBS Are off of DISH Network.

CBS 4--KCNC-TV & CBS are off of DISH Network after failing to come to an agreement on a new carriage contract, this does not include KKTV CBS11 in Colorado Springs/Pueblo or KREX News channel 5 Grand Junction/Montrose, these stations aren't owned by CBS.  There is a dispute over how much reverse compensation DISH is willing to pay CBS to carry the network and it's Owned & Operated stations.    We have a clock on the right hand side of the blog that will be up until CBS & DISH come to an agreement.

DISH Network & CBS are in contract talks.

DISH Network may drop CBS O&O Stations nationwide November 20, 2017 at 11:59PM Mountain Time, over a re-trans dispute.   These disputes have become quite common over the past decade and DISH isn't the only provider to have this issue, DirecTV, the former Bright house Networks, Cablevision, & Time Warner Cable have all had disputes with the owners of various local affiliates over the past decade.    The last 2 disputes in Denver have been between Gannett (now Tegna)& DISH owners of KUSA & KTVD  , and Tribune & DirecTV owner of KWGN & KDVR .    Most of the time these disputes get resolved before the signals get pulled, will it happen this time?  I Guess we will find out.

Here is the website from CBS4 & CBS Television Stations Inc explaining the issue: http://www.keepcbsondish.com/denver

FCC Pauses it's review of Tribune/Sinclair merger.

The F.C.C. has paused it's review of two Denver TV Station's parent company's merger with Sinclair Broadcast Group for 15 days, after several groups filed opposition to the merger.  Some of the groups that oppose the merger are Douglas County based DISH Network, a trade group for Alaphabet-Google's parent company, Amazon, NewsMax group, Glenn Beck's "THE BLAZE" & many others.

Sinclair's proposed $3.9 billion deal was on day 104 of a 180-day process used by the FCC.

The deal would "cripple" a free and diverse press according to Newsmax.

KDVR Update's it's graphics & music.

Today FOX31 Updated it's graphics & music, the new graphics have a FOX O&O feel to them.  FOX31's other graphics were from 2011 and they had been updated in late 2015.  It appears this update is only on the KDVR side for now. We don't know if KWGN will get a graphics update or not.   I have to say so far I love the new graphics they are very clean looking.

KDVR/KWGN News Director leaves the Duopoly.

Holly Gauntt has announced that she is leaving FOX31 & Colorado's Own channel 2, after two years at the stations, she is moving right across the street to 7NEWS, she will be replacing Lindsay Radford who left on June 3.

KDVR & KWGN are waiting to see if a pending sale of the stations goes through. If it does the stations would then be owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc.   Sinclair is currently the largest owner of FOX Affiliates in the country.   Some staffers at KDVR & KWGN are worried about Sinclair's "Must Runs" because so much of that content is right leaning.
