NBC11 NEWS drops NBC Branding on-air and from it's website.

Gray Television's NBC stations across the country including 11NEWS, KKCO are removing NBC branding from there stations, it appears as of this morning that 11NEWS has already done so.

It also appears as though most of the national news articles on the 11NEWS website are coming from Gray or CNN News Source, not NBC News.   There is no word at this time as to why Gray NBC stations are removing the network branding.    Will 11NEWS also drop the NBC themed music it has been using for a while?  I would say Yes.

Gray Television owns & operates 70 NBC affiliate stations across the country.

TEGNA & DirecTV / AT&T U-VERSE are in a re-transmission dispute.

It looks as if Tegna Media & DirecTV / AT&T U-Verse are headed for a potential blackout.  The blackout began just a few minutes ago, so viewers in Denver have now lost access to KUSA (NBC) & KTVD (My Network TV) Programing around 6:00PM MDT This evening, the last time negotiations broke down Tegna stations across the country were off of the sat caster for almost a month.

As usual we will have a clock going on this blog to track how long this dispute will last.

Beyond Colorado, Tegna owns stations in:

  • Atlanta, WXIA -NBC  WATL--My Network TV
  • Phoenix, KPNX -NBC
  • Jacksonville, WTLV -NBC  WJXX -ABC
  • Washington D.C., WUSA -CBS
  • Houston: KHOU - CBS, KTBU - QUEST
  • Charlotte: WCNC - NBC
  • Cleveland: WKYC - NBC

And many other markets, The Blackout began at 7:13PM MDT, so the clock is at the top of this blog until the Denver signals return, I have a feeling this could be a lengthy blackout so stay tuned...

DENVER7 Celebrated 70 years on the Air November 1st.

Denver7 turned 70 on November 1, 2023.  Here we have a look back of some of the history of  KMGH-TV.

KLZ Building with News Vehicles.png

It started out as KLZ-TV, broadcasting CBS programing from November 1, 1953 until the "Big Switch" on September 10, 1995, when it became an ABC station.

KLZ-TV was the first station in Colorado & one of the first in the nation to have cameras in the court room, something they ended up having to take to the Colorado supreme court.  They changed there call letters from KLZ-TV to the current KMGH-TV in 1972.

There was a time between 1990-1991 when they were still a CBS Affiliate, that they were  the lowest rated CBS station in the country, there former owners Mc-Graw Hill Broadcasting worked hard to get the ratings back and it worked, then they switched over to ABC and now are doing well in the Denver news ratings.

Here are there current studio facilities, thru early next year when they move a few blocks north to new facilities, we'll have more on that in a later post.

Scripps names a new G.M. for KMGH / KCDO

Scripps last week announced that Brian Joyce has been named to the G.M & station manger position. Replacing Dean Littleton who is joining Scripps corporate to oversee the local broadcast properties.  Bryan comes to KMGH/KCDO from KPAX the CBS Station in Missoula, MT a post he has held since January 2021.  Prior to that he was in Tucson AZ at KGUN-TV.

If he sounds familiar that is because he is no stranger to Denver TV, he was a sports reporter at KUSA from 2005-2007.
