Former 9NEWS anchor & reporter Ward Lucas has passed away at 75.

It was reported this evening that former 9NEWS anchor & investigative reporter Ward Lucas has died at age 75, he passed away Sunday September 15,2024.  He was at 9NEWS for 30+ years before retiring in 2009.  He started his broadcast career at KIRO7 in Seattle where he worked for 2 years before coming to Denver at KUSA.

He was also part of a Documentary on Mr. Ted Bundy the serial killer that was on Nexflix a few years back, In 1977 he flew to Aspen to cover the escape of Mr. Bundy from the Pitkin County jail, unbeknown to the news director at the time (as Aspen is outside of the KUSA viewing area).

He will be missed, no word on the cause of death.

KDVR / KFCT has added yet more news, begining today.

FOX31 launched a new :30min newscast today at 3:30PM--M-F.

FOX31 already has mostly news on the schedule anyways, they run newscasts from 4:30AM--Noon, 4PM,5PM,9PM,9:30PM, 10PM.  Monday--Friday.

I almost wonder if FOX31 has over news saturated their schedule with news at this point?   I know other FOX stations (Ie FOX O&O WTVT in Tampa, WJBK in Detroit & Fox Affillate WSVN in Miami) have a lot of newscasts but the Denver market is not a big as Tampa or Detroit.

Thoughts are welcome...

9NEWS@3PM Launched today... A fast review!

9NEWS @ 3PM Launched today, and it actually surprised me a bit... Why do I say this? Because given the time slot, I envisioned this newscast being full of "Fluff", soft news, entertainment,ect...   But they were covering news.    So I say keep it up!

I Believe this will be a good replacement for Daily Blast Live, and I could see this being a situation where this newscast is on the air for years to come, being in this time slot will also allow KUSA the ability to quickly react to Colorado's severe weather in the spring time, instead of having to bump network or syndicated programing.     Plus KUSA launched updated opening sequences and has tweaked the graphics a bit.

So stay tuned.   We are only at  Season 1 Episode 1
