We now know the company who wants to purchase and re-develop the KMGH studios in downtown Denver.

The Denver Business Journal has learned who the group that hopes to buy & re-develop the KMGH Studio location. It is developer Property Markets Group out of New York City.   I have posted a little bit of the article below, plus a link--the link is behind a pay wall and may or may not allow you to view it.  The article goes into depth about why KMGH needs a new studio facility.

Denver7 KMGH-TV and its owner, Scripps Media Inc., hope to sell the television station's longtime home at the intersection of Speer Boulevard and Lincoln Street to a developer who plans to tear down the structure and build residential units.

But several locals want to see the building remain standing, and have filed a landmark-designation application to ensure that's the case.

So begins Denver's latest high-profile dispute over landmark designations, which prevent the demolition of historic buildings deemed worthy of preservation by city planners and City Council.

The primary building in question is an octagonal, five-story Brutalist tower that was completed in 1969 at 123 Speer Blvd. The property also includes a much less imposing, five-story connecting tower and a two-story studio, as well as a concrete plaza and surface parking lot. The 2.3-acre property is zoned for mixed-use development up to 12 stories.

In 2019, Denver7 began exploring a potential sale of the building, seeking to move into a space that more closely resembles the one- or two-story buildings favored by television stations today. Such a space would reduce operating costs, allow for more collaboration and better accommodate Denver7's more than 200 employees, vice president and general manager Dean Littleton said. With money from the sale, the station planned to find a new, centrally located home in Denver.

FOX31 Has launched a new digital streaming service.

Beginning tonight March 12, 2021--FOX31 has launched a new digital stream at their website KDVR.COM called FOX31 NOW.  The stream will broadcast live events, sort of similar to NEWS NOW from FOX NEWS & former O&O sister station KSAZ-FOX 10.

( the News Now service from FOX is run out of the KSAZ newsroom)

The first broadcast of "FOX31 NOW" was a weather update from chief meteorologist Dave Frasier talking about this weekend's upcoming major winter storm.  The FOX31 NOW digital stream is available on the website & through their mobile app--this will not be a tv service.

I Don't know if this is a project from Nexstar or just a local project from FOX31 NEWS.   There is a potential to have a lot of news events on this stream, this could turn out to be a very big project from FOX31.

Here is the link to go check out the stream: https://kdvr.com/live/now/

KMGH studios & property are now up for sale.

Scripps Media is in the process of looking for a new home for KMGH & new sister station KCDO. At some point they want to move from there current headquarters at 123 E. Speer Blvd.  But they have hit a little snag, the city & county of Denver is now looking to see if the building is historic or not, that could make things difficult for potential buyers.  Scripps says they simply don't have enough room in the building to cover news properly, they also have the Scripps national news desk based out of the building. Meaning that things have become a bit cramped.

Here is an article talking about the potential move from the Denver Gazette:https://denvergazette.com/news/denvers-channel-7-looking-for-new-digs-debate-over-its-51-year-home-just-beginning/article_4169cfd4-5d89-11eb-b14f-bfd8c76d7e62.html

KMGH Has been in that studio facility since 1969.  Before that they were right next door on Lincoln Street, in a converted car dealership, satellite dishes & uplink dishes now sit where the old studios were.

Now for a little Denver history:When KMGH & Time-Life opened "The Communications Center" they were known as KLZ-TV & were a sister station to KLZ-AM (Now: KLZ The Source 560AM & 100.7FM).  They changed there call letters from KLZ-TV to KMGH-TV in 1972 after being purchased by McGraw-Hill Broadcasting. They have been owned by Scripps Broadcasting since December 30, 2011. They were also the first station in the U.S. to operate "Parker Vision" a computerized master control room that would allow 1 person to do multiple studio and sound functions at once.
