DENVER7 Chief Meterologist Mike Nelson retires today after 48 years, and the last 20 of them at KMGH/KCDO

Denver7 Chief Meteorologist Mike Nelson is Retiring today, his last newscast will be today at 5PM.  He has been on the air for 48 years. He chose today to retire because 12+12=48, hence December 12th.  

Mike started out selling weather computers to tv stations across the country, infact he sold a system to KUSA back in the day, and got to train the late Bill Kuster & the late Stormy Rotman on how to use the new system, he also trained NBC Today Show Meterologist Al Roker on the then new system. 

He got his TV start at WKOW-TV in Madison, WI and then went on to KMOV-TV in St. Louis.  In June 1991 he landed at KUSA 9NEWS in Denver, where he was the chief meterologist until 2004 when he moved across the street to KMGH where he has been ever since.   Mike Nelson's passion for weather has impacted many many school children over the years with his signature tornado dance and the "Kid Cam". 

Mike also has been telling the viewers about the impacts of climate change, and for the past few years has had the carbon dioxide levels posed during his weather forecasts.  He has also written several books including: "The Colorado Weather Book", "Colorado Weather Almanac", &
